In its relatively short history, blockchain has presented numerous solutions to challenges around traditional finance, internet freedom, and much more. However, an underutilized real-world application for blockchain lies in the world of charity.

On a mission to promote a balanced world and better utilize blockchain for philanthropy, Gate Group announced the official launch of Gate Charity, a global non-profit philanthropic organization. Through the organization’s landing page, Gate Charity revealed its goals of uniting the crypto community to combat poverty, improve education, promote environmental action, and provide broad support for the underprivileged.

Deputy CEO of Gate Group, Rae, said, “By putting boots on the ground and partnering with local organizations worldwide, Gate Charity is reshaping the world by using the power of blockchain for philanthropic action with the ultimate goal of creating a more equitable and balanced global society.”

Generating positive impact worldwide

Gate Charity began organizing initiatives in several countries after a somewhat lowkey launch in November, starting with donations to support abandoned animals in the care of HAÇİKO, a Turkish animal rights and welfare organization.

By the end of 2022, Gate Charity volunteers had successfully organized charitable events in several countries, including Turkey, Vietnam, the Philippines, and South Korea. Volunteers delivered school supplies, food, and clothing to over 280 orphaned children at the Ky Quang II Pagoda. Further, Gate Charity donated food packages to an underprivileged Aeta community in the Philippines.

Blockchain philanthropy through NFTs

As the first initiatives from Gate Charity focused on traditional philanthropy, December marked the first initiative powered by blockchain. Children from the Dongmyeong Child Welfare Center in South Korea had their artwork minted as NFTs. The collection sold out on Gate.io, with all profits donated directly to supporting the children and providing them with gifts for Christmas.

With the success of the first charitable NFT collection, Gate Charity subsequently released the New Year Seal NFT collection. Following the same model as the previous charitable collection, the first batch features artwork created by children at the Ky Quang II Pagoda in Vietnam. Children from the Manav Mandir Gurukul in India will draw the second batch. Proceeds from both collections will be donated directly to their respective organizations.

Gate Charity’s overall impact, mission statement, and goals are outlined on the new charity landing page on Gate.io. In addition, contributors can find out the total donated, beneficiaries, and regions impacted, along with a list of announcements and ongoing fundraisers, such as the NFT collections. The page was recently launched alongside the official reveal of Gate Charity and is an excellent source for anyone looking to help make an impact.
